CLAREMONT — There are many major events on this summer’s ambitious racing schedule at Claremont Motorsports Park. None, though, are bigger or more prestigious than this Friday, July 29, night’s return to the historic Thrasher Road speedplant of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
After a 15-year absence from CMP, the fabled Modified tour that has brought the likes of Richie Evans, Mike Stefanik, Ted Christopher and Ryan Preece to local racing fans will return this week, as JDV Productions presents the 150-lap Clash at Claremont on Friday night.
A young driver from Connecticut, 23-year-old James Civali, won the Allstate 100 back on July 8, 2007 when the NASCAR Modified touring series last competed at the third-mle oval then known as Twin State Speedway. Matt Hirschman and Ronnie Silk finished second and third on that hot July night.
Silk currently sits atop the Whelen Tour points parade and he’ll be gunning to add to his advantage Friday at CMP, where he’ll take on a field that includes Jon McKennedy, Doug Coby, Justin Bonsignore, Hirschman, Eric Goodale, and Anthony Nocella. Also expected to be in the Clash at Claremont’s starting field are Matt Kimball, Sammy Rameau, and Brian Robie, each hoping to fill the shoes worn by Jim Civali15 summers ago.
Four CMP Friday night house divisions, the Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Six Shooters will also be in action on Friday’s Clash at Claremont card of events. Post time for this very special event is 6:30 p.m.
