Shirley A. Sullivan CORNISH FLAT, NH — Shirley Ann Sullivan (84) of Cornish Flat, NH passed away the morning of July 28th, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on Mother’s Day, May 7th, 1938, at Sullivan County nursing home in Unity, NH. She attended the Claremont school district, graduating from Stevens High School in 1957. She met her future husband Fred at a 4H dancing competition. She said she won, he said he won, I guess they both won! Fred and Shirley were married in 1959 and took over the family business- Brokenridge Farm, that is where their story began. Shirley was the ideal farmers wife, if someone did not show up for work Shirley filled in milking cows, driving tractor, haying, packing silage with a bulldozer while always having a meal ready at the end of the day. On top of this Shirley ran the Brokenridge Farm maple operation as well as having a booth at the Cornish flat Farmers Market. Shirley accomplished a lot in her life. She was one of the first members of the Cornish Rescue Squad, and a Trustee of Trust Funds of Cornish. She was a member of the NH Jersey Cattle Club, a member of the blow-me-down snow rides, and a member of the NH Maple Producer’s Association. She worked as a director for the Cornish Fair Association and was a clerk for the pure breed dairy show as well a 4H dairy club leader. After retirement Shirley enjoyed her time visiting all 52 states with her beloved husband Fred. Shirley loved her family, she is survived by her husband Fred C. Sullivan of Cornish, NH, and sisters Betty P. Donavon husband Dan of Claremont, NH, and Priscilla J. Tetreault husband Rocky of Houston, TX. As well as daughter Joan M. Dumayne, and spouse Arthur H. Dumayne of Claremont NH., her 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her father John J. Buinicky, mother Louise Malvina Breault, and her son Charles J. Sullivan. The family would like to thank everyone who loved and cared for Shirley as much as she loved them. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Shirley to the Cornish Rescue Squad, or the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 1st at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH from 9-11AM. A memorial service will be at 11AM, burial will follow at the Childs Cemetery in Cornish. The Cornish Fair Association dedicated a livestock pavilion in honor of Shirley and Fred Sullivan. This was a surprise to the Sullivan family and one of the happiest days of Shirley’s life. Because of tha,t we would like to have a celebration of life at the Cornish fair grounds in the Sullivan Livestock pavilion immediately following the burial.
