LTE: Show Claremont Pride

Dear Editor,

Claremont has a citizen group that is concerned with the ever growing issue of litter in our community. What can we do? Why does it happen? Will the proposed privatization of the landfill cause litter to grow?

One thing you can do is join the Anti-Litter Task Force and help the group brainstorm solutions. A Girl Scout in our group is planning a visibility campaign for identifying the problem. Others have created a poster (a student) which is posted in all the schools in Claremont. Others are encouraging the local SAU to develop curriculum to educate about litter and how to be proactive in its elimination. Various anti-litter initiatives are planned but we need your help, solutions and energy. This problem can be solved. The Claremont Parks and Recreation Department has an Adopt-A-Spot on their website. You and your group can volunteer to clean up a certain spot in the city. The Claremont Democrats manage the lawn and trees at the Fiske Free Library and there are other groups cleaning various parks and public spaces.
