CLAREMONT — The old Connecticut Valley League (CVL) always brought out the best in rivalries and although this league is long gone, the rivalries remain, and this year there will be some dandies. In New Hampshire, after taking a few years off because of division alignments, the Stevens Cardinals and Fall Mountain Wildcats will go at it in Langdon under the lights for a 7 o’clock kickoff in division 3 action. Across the river, Springfield will be the place to be on back-to-back on weekends as Todd Aiken’s Cosmos will host a couple of defending state championship teams with Windsor then Bellows Falls the following weekend.
Our area graduated a pile of great quarterbacks from last season as Jon Terry, Sam Presch, Luke Gay and Zach Bundy will all head off to college. Some seasoned quarterbacks remain, however, as the Yellow Jackets will look to three-peat with Maison Fortin under center for Windsor.
The only head coaching change happened at Stevens as Josh Duford will assume the head coaching responsibilities while Paul Silva will step into the offensive coordinator’s role as the two will switch duties. “It looks like I’ll be doing the laundry, that comes with the title, joked,” said Duford.
An eye opener brings us over to Vermont where John Proper will take his always strong Newport squad over to Mill River, Vermont to face the Minutemen in a non-league game under the lights in North Clarendon during a New Hampshire bye-week for the Tigers.
