Ronald B. Nelson CLAREMONT — Ronald B. Nelson, 79, of Claremont, NH passed away on August 14, 2022, at Valley Regional Hospital. He was born in Claremont on October 2, 1942, the son of Bert and Mildred (Richardson) Nelson. Ron had a 52-year career in Law Enforcement. He began work as a Police Officer in 1970 with the Claremont, NH Police Department, retiring in 1997. In 1997 he began working as a part-time Deputy for the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office working the road until 2006 when he transferred from Patrol Deputy to Bailiff assigned to the Sullivan County Superior Court. He worked in the court until late June of this year when he took some time off to care for his health. Upon his death, Ron was still on the roster anticipating a return to work. Ron was well known and respected in Sullivan County, His death leaves a large hole in the hearts of the members of the Sheriff’s Office and everyone who knew him. Ron was a member of the Moose of Claremont, the NH Police Association and the New Hampshire Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. He was in the Car club “Misfits”. He was a Eucharist Minister of St. Mary Church. He is survived by his son, Bradley Nelson of Washington, IL; daughter Kimberly Kalacinski and her husband, William of Enfield; brother, Richard Nelson of Claremont; sisters, Patricia Walker of Croydon, and Carol Greenwood of Claremont, his granddaughter’s Mia and Madilynn Nelson also nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife whom he married on July 4, 1981, Janice E. (Eddy) Nelson, his parents and his niece, Ashley Brown. Visiting hours will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH on Thursday, August 18th from 5-7PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Mary Church on Friday at 1PM. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Claremont Soup Kitchen.
