I was recently visiting Claremont in search of some information about my father, Robert Sharon, who was born in Claremont 108 years ago. My partner and I started at the Visitor’s Center and Ms. Cargill there was very understanding and sent us to City Hall and Ms. Melcher. Ms. Melcher produced the town record from 1914 with information about my father and his parents. We completed our quest in the local library and the gentleman at the main desk helped us locate some further information from the newspaper from 1914 on microfilm in the library’s collection.
It took me 73 years to make it to my father’s birthplace, but I’m glad I did. The three people helping me were all professional and compassionate.
Claremont in no longer a figment of my imagination, but an actual town with very nice people willing to help a visitor.
Thanks and I hope your town lasts another 108 years at least. Pax vobiscum.
