Janice M. Crosby GOSHEN, NH — Janice M. Crosby (1941-2022) passed away peacefully on September 7, 2022 with family by her side. She was 81. She was born on January 24, 1941 to John Patrick and Josephine (Kozack) Petroski of Dracula, MA on Primrose Hill. Janice graduated early as salutatorian from Dracut High School in 1962 and attended Lowell State College, now UMASS Lowell to major in teaching, but her true passion was archaeology. There she met her first husband and father of their four children, Denis J. O’Sullivan, Jr. They resided in Springfield and Natick, Massachusetts, eventually moving to Pelham, NH, divorcing in 1978. She and the children moved to Newport, NH, where Janice was employed as a bookkeeper for Osborne Marina, Noble Chevrolet, and later for Dorr Woolen for 8 years. Janice was a woman who took pride in her impeccable household. She loved to cook for her family and could often be seen working in her beautiful gardens with her West Highland Terriers running around the yard. People often stopped to take pictures of her lovely gardens. In Newport, as an active member of the Church of the Epiphany, Janice met her second husband, the Reverend Derill P. Crosby, her spouse of 34 years. He predeceased her in 2018. They shared a love of Westies, the ocean, RVing, and the Lord. Well-read and fascinated by the news and politics (and the Red Sox, of course), Janice would willingly discuss and debate the latest issues. Members of her surviving family include her two siblings, Glen Petroski of Port Orchard, WA and Gail Petroski-Bourque of NJ; her three remaining children, Denis J. O’Sullivan III and his wife Melanie of Newport, NH; Janice Porter and her husband Ray of Goshen, NH; and Brendan O’Sullivan and his wife Andrea of Providence, RI; Her daughter Elizabeth Anne O’Sullivan predeceased her in 1994. Other family members include sister-in-law Blanche Petroski of Pelham, NH. Families members who have also predeceased her include her oldest sister Joan Murphy of Dracut, MA and her brothers Steve Petroski of Pelham, NH, and Joseph “Bo” Petroski who lived in the family home in Dracut, MA, her brothers-in-law Robert Murphy and Jim Bourque. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont, NH on Friday, September 16 from 2-3:00, immediately followed by her funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Newport with a reception at The Courthouse of Newport. Donations may be made in her memory to The Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are with Stringer Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH 03743. To view an online memorial or send a private message of condolence, visit www.stringerfh.com.
