CLAREMONT- Nathan Pillsbury has received a sentencing of five to ten years in the New Hampshire State Prison as a result of charges of first degree assault with a firearm.
Pillsbury also received three and a half to seven years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. That sentence will run concurrently with the assault charge sentencing.
Sentencing stems from an arrest in May of this year, when Pillsbury was accused of shooting fellow Claremont resident Ty Fowler. It was reported that Pillsbury had physically assaulted Fowler on the Main Street Bridge in Claremont before shooting him in the leg. It was alleged at the time that Pillsbury had gone to a nearby apartment after and announced to everyone there that he had just shot Fowler.
After receiving calls from nearby residents that a shooting had just occurred, a police officer was able to make contact with Pillsbury. He was let go at the time after giving the officer a false name, claiming to be his brother Ian Pillsbury. Local police were able to obtain security camera footage from a nearby business and confirmed that Pillsbury had in fact shot Fowler. The video also appeared to show Pillsbury taking a bag from the victim before leaving. After a period of time, Pillsbury returned to the scene of the crime and was seen in the video picking something up off the ground, which is believed to be the spent shell casing from the incident.
An eyewitness to the incident claimed to have seen Fowler, after he had been shot, at a Central Street apartment. Based on where the witness said Fowler had been shot, detectives stated they believe the bullet may have nearly missed an artery. The witness claimed that he may have been driven to Manchester for medical treatment. A separate witness stated that he chose to remove the bullet from his leg himself.
At the time of his arrest, Pillsbury was wanted by the United States Marshals for a violation of his federal probation. After Claremont police and Federal Marshals were unable to locate Pillsbury at his residence, they received a call in regard to a fight that Pillsbury was a part of and were able to arrest him.
While Fowler could not be located after the shooting to treat his wounds, he was ultimately arrested one month later at a residence on Fern Street in Claremont. He along with two others were arrested after Claremont police received a search warrant for a Fern Street apartment that had received several complaints of potential drug activity. After police searched the apartment, they located nearly 75 grams of heroin, fentanyl, crystal meth, crack cocaine and LSD with a value of $10,000 dollars.
Of his prison sentence he has served a total of 133 days, which will go toward his release date. Pillsbury was also charged with tampering with a witness and falsifying evidence, both charges received suspended sentences on the grounds of five years of good behavior after his release. Pillsbury will also be required to attend state mandated drug and alcohol counseling.
