CLAREMONT- Comedy is returning to the Claremont Opera House.
This Saturday night at 7:30 PM, three of the best comics in the area will be taking the stage at the 125-year-old theater. Representatives with the Claremont Opera House say that they are looking forward to opening the doors to the community as entertainment venues still struggle with the effects of COVID-19.
“I think comedy in general is something most people enjoy so it’s always a fun thing to have at the Opera House. We have opened the stage up to different ranges of names in comedy and have done both typical standup comedy nights with regional acts as well as some of the specialty bigger acts like Bob Marley and Juston McKinney,” said Andrew Pinard, the Executive Artistic Director for the Claremont Opera House.
The Claremont Opera House was able to track down some of the best talent in the area through Headliners Comedy, run by comedian and promoter Rob Steen. Saturday night’s show will include comedy from Steve Bjork, who the Boston Globe has described as, “one of the top names in New England Comedy.” The Boston Globe also covered the comedian receiving the Wilmington Libraries “Good Guy” award. Today, Bjork is highly regarded in the comedy scene for his hilarious observations from his everyday life.
“Stevens a really fun comedian who is really about observations of the weird aspects of life,
somethings people take for granted,” Pinard said of the well-known talent.
Saturday night will also feature well known New Hampshire comedian Matt Barry. Barry has performed stand up in Claremont, previously at both the Claremont Opera House and local restaurants such as Time-Out.
“Every show I’ve done in Claremont has been so inviting. All the venues are really interesting and when I performed there last year it was a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to coming back,” he said.
Representatives with the Claremont Opera House say that, while Barry’s comedy leans a bit younger and edgier, they’re certain he will be a great fit for the show.
“He refused to stay at my house in 2017,” Claremont comedian Dan Gilbert said of Barry.
The show will also feature Boston comic Kindra Lansburg. She has been cited as Boston’s rising comic and has been featured in a number of comedy festivals including the Women in Comedy Festival and the Boston Comedy Festival. She has also taken to producing her own shows in Boston to rave reviews.
The Claremont Opera House is also looking forward to two other comedy shows coming up later this year and early next in November and September respectively. Be sure to arrive early, tickets are available online for $20 or $23 at the door.
