Elizabeth M. O’Brien Simoneau NEWPORT, NH — Elizabeth Mae O’Brien Simoneau peacefully passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, September 18, 2022. She was born on April 24, 1934, in Portland, Maine to Lloyd O’Brien and Hilda Fleet. Elizabeth Mae was predeceased by her husband Howard and her oldest granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth Haselton Eason of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Haselton and her husband Douglass of Sheffield, VT, and Brenda Bourdon and her husband Thomas of Springfield, NH. She was also the proud grandmother of her grandchildren, Kurt Haselton and his wife Michelle of Calpine, CA, Lauren Elizabeth Bourdon and her fiancé Matthew Wilson of Boston, MA, Liza Mae Bourdon of Freeville, NY, and her two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Wyatt Haselton of Calpine, CA. Elizabeth Mae, fondly known as “Betty,” resided in Newport, NH for 66 years in her beloved home on South Main Street where she raised her two daughters. She was employed by Dorr Woolen for 43 years as their receptionist. Her distinct voice was known by all. After her retirement, she spent much of her time volunteering at the Newport Thrift Store for 14 years. She shared her kindness, love, and compassion with all whom she met. Betty’s greatest love was her family and friends. She was an incredible mother and friend who inspired all who knew her. Although she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in all our hearts forever. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the South Congregational Church, 20 Church Street, Newport, NH, 03773. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, South Congregational Church in Newport, NH.
