LANGDON — In a game much more competitive than its final score would project, the Fall Mountain Wildcats Women’s Soccer team dropped their home game Tuesday night to the Hopkinton Hawks, 4-0.

From the contest’s opening kick, Hopkinton showed dominant ball control, staying on the attacking end for a majority of the first half. This stellar passing would lead to an early scoring chance, where the Wildcats’ goalkeeper got caught too far out of the box with attackers on their way to a goal, before a Fall Mountain defender could step in front of the shot.

However, the four-time defending state champions would not be held scoreless for long. Elizabeth Holmes would find the back of the net due to a miscommunication between Fall Mountain players, to make the score 1-0 eight minutes into the game. Hopkinton’s Kiley Ehrmanntraut would follow up that goal a few minutes later with one of her own to make it 2-0. The first half ended looking like the visitors would run away with the contest, due to their ball control, speed, and keeping Fall Mountain out of the attacking end. The Wildcats only mustered two shots on goal in the first half.

Fall Mountain came out of halftime looking much more composed and were able to push the ball more often. Solid defense from the likes of senior Melodee Chambers would keep them hanging around. But, 20 minutes into the half, Hopkinton would strike again. A beautiful crossing pass found a gaggle of Hawks in front of the goal, waiting to score. Paige Prisco-Nelson would be the one to tickle the twine, raising the lead to 3-0. A goal from Kennedy Mark with less than a minute remaining would reach the game’s final score of 4-0 Hawks.

With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 4-5 on the season.
