Rupp’s Four Goals Lead Windsor: Local Recap and This Weekend’s Football Schedule

WINDSOR, Vt. — Audrey Rupp hit the back of the net four times during the Yellow Jackets win over Mill River on Tuesday. “Coach has been telling me to look at the net more and the passing from our midfield was perfect today, the ball found the open spots and I just did my best to get in the goal, it felt really good to get a win,” said Rupp.

Mill River is a young team full of heart, with defenders who were under attack much of the game. With Casey Tifft and Sierra Bryant anchoring the defense in front of goalie Lacee Lanfear, Windsor just kept shooting in waves.

Rupp opened the scoring then Olivia MacLeay doubled Windsor’s score before Rupp added another score before the break giving the Jacks a 3-0 lead. “We were playing for Windsor Police Chief Jenn Frank and breast cancer awareness she organized for one of our community members, I think we represented that cause really well today,” said Windsor coach Jeff Bachey.

Sophia Rockwood was relatively quiet in the Jacks goal as the strong back line was once again solid. Stella Atwood and Miah McAllister controlled the center of the pitch while midfielders Sophia Duford and Skylar Thibodeau did a great job limiting Mill Rivers standout Alison Usher with runs on net. “Our defense is so much improved than a few weeks ago, we are communicating really well and providing good cover if we overlap,” said Attwood.

The Jacks took control of the second half right from the start as Rupp would score twice more and her cross from deep in the corner created another score with Kenzie Wescott getting the tally.

“This is a very young team with an 8th grader on the squad, our intensity is getting better, and we will continue to play hard, the heart in this team is undeniable,” said Minutemen head coach Shawn Bendig.

Bachey went deep into his bench with players getting the chance to try different positions as Mill River continued to play hard. “As a senior, I just want to help make the team better any way I can and try to get the younger players confident and ready for varsity play, I love this game and wouldn’t trade playing with this group for anything,” said Usher.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets have ripped off five in a row allowing only a single goal over that span. Mill River (1-8) will look to get back into the win column as they host West Rutland on Thursday while Windsor (6-2) heads to Springfield on Friday.
