Windsor falls to Stratton Mountain, 5-1
Windsor got the scoring started with a goal by Kenzie Wescott off an Olivia MacLeay corner kick in the 16th minute of the first half and looked to extend their nine-game winning streak. With six minutes to go in the half, Stratton (6-4) equalized the score 1-1. Stratton Mountain is a school that boasts athletes from across the country who are incredible athletes and skiers who soar to the school late in the fall to learn on the slopes of Vermont. The Bears went on to score four more times in the second half to grab the 5-1 win. “We just didn’t have an answer for their athleticism tonight,” said coach Jeff Bachey. Sophia Rockwood made 10 saves for (10-3) Windsor.
Sunapee 3, Woodsville 2
The Sunapee effort ebbed and flowed on senior night, showing moments of strong play and purpose and moments of hesitation and disorganization. “We have not played in over a week, and it showed,” said Sunapee coach Myles Cooney.
Sunapee scored first on a strong effort from Brynn Smith to gain the corner and leave the ball for Sophie Bourque. The Lakers carried that momentum into the half.
The second half opened with a Woodsville goal on a broken play and Sunapee would answer just minutes later on a strong pass from Liz Tschudin to Clare Tuohy who was at full speed, collected the ball and fired a laser, off the far post and in. Woodsville answered again on a direct kick only to have Senior Liz Tschudin make a great individual effort to ice the game with five minutes remaining. “Liz is capable of doing that more often, she is an amazing soccer player, I hope to see that more as we advance into the second season,” Said Cooney.
“We will know for sure Friday where we stand, we are capable of playing better than we did tonight, credit Woodsville for their tenacity and gritty play. If you look at the score sheet this senior class is all over it, in the back we start three seniors Brie Hughlock, Miranda Andersen and Calla Baker. We have only allowed 10 goals all season, they deserve a lot of credit for that effort. There is work to be done but take a minute and appreciate all these kids have accomplished at Sunapee High School,” added Cooney.
