Maurice C. Hurd UNITY — Maurice C. Hurd passed away at Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, NH on October 14, 2022. Maurice was born in Burlington, VT on March 11, 1935, the son of Arthur and Julia (Hamel) Hurd. He attended school in the Upper Valley before moving to Claremont at age 16. He attended Stevens High School prior to entering the U. S. Air Force. He returned home early to help his mother with the family’s nursing home business after his father passed away. On June 23, 1956, he married the love of his life, Marie (Thebault) and he began his career as a commercial truck driver for local companies. He helped move Joy Manufacturing from Main Street to their new location on River Road. He also operated General Auto Salvage on Newport Road in Claremont, NH for many years. After leaving General Auto Salvage Maurice & his son started Maurice’s Auto and Truck during the early 70’s then Michael and Marie joined the business, where they brokered auto parts to local dealerships, body shops and garages. This allowed him to do what he loved to do, drive back and forth to Arizona and North Carolina picking up truck parts. He will make his last journey to North Carolina on October 20th to a place he enjoyed with other family members before being laid to rest with his mother in Lebanon NH. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Marie purchased a motor-coach and spent time traveling around the country, until making their winter home in Naples, Florida for several years before returning to Claremont full time. Maurice had a short residency at Summercrest Assisted Living Facility in Newport, NH before moving to the Sullivan County Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife, Marie; his sons Michael Hurd and his wife, Tracey; Maurice Hurd and Stephanie; grandchildren Zachary Hurd of White River Junction, VT; Matthew Hurd and Shealyn Hurd both of Claremont, NH; Step grandchildren Tasia (Macie) and Brett (Hagerman), both of Claremont, NH and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marie Trembley and her husband, David of Portsmouth, NH. No service will be held per Maurice’s request.
