Carmella “Marro” Tenney

Carmella “Marro” Tenney CLAREMONT — October 23, 2022, Carmella “Marro” Tenney, age 78 was called home to the Lord. Known to all that knew and loved her as “Grammie T”. Her infectious smile will be greatly missed in the Claremont community. As a parishioner of St Joseph’s church, she was a fixture every Sunday. Born November 22, 1943 to Mary and Carminie Marro, she was the youngest of eleven children. She grew up with seven brothers and three sisters which contributed to both her courage and competitiveness throughout her life. Carmella attended Claremont Schools and graduated from Stevens High School in 1961. She later married her high school sweetheart, William Tenney Sr in 1964. She was an outstanding athlete, excelling in field hockey and basketball, subsequently receiving the “ St. Josephs Award” for student/athlete of the year her senior year. She was an accomplished bowler and played “women’s league” softball and volleyball over the years. Camping, cooking, sewing and game night with her family were some of her favorite things to do but was better known for her tireless commitment to attending athletic events of her children and grandchildren. She was even known to coach and “keep the book” while vocally supporting all involved. She had an extensive collection of original Annalee figurines and especially loved lighthouses. Playing Mahjong and swimming with friends at the community center in her later years was something that she truly enjoyed and looked forward to. Over the years, Carmella worked at many places including Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Sylvania, N.C. Marro Plumbing/Heating, and for many years as a special education/paraprofessional at Maple Avenue School. She also coached J.V girls’ soccer and field hockey for Stevens High School in the 1980’s. She opted to retire early to help provide daycare for her Grandchildren and others. Carmella is survived by her husband of 58 years, William Tenney Sr., two children, William Tenney Jr. (wife Jolene) of Claremont NH, and Lori Tenney White (husband Mitchell) of Hartland VT . Carmella is survived by her 5 grandchildren who were her light and soul; Colten Tenney (wife Darlina) of Durham NH, Danielle Tenney of Claremont NH, Connor White (wife Bethany) of Bossier City, LA. Ethan White of Wichita, KS, and Morgan White of Hartland, VT, along with many, many nieces and nephews. She also has one surviving sister, Madeline Barbieri of Claremont NH. Predeceased Family include her parents Mary and Carminie Marro, her brothers Anthony Marro, Dominic Marro, Nicholas Marro, Charles Marro, Albert Marro, Joseph Marro, Paul Marro, and sisters Marion Marro and Katherine Moore. Arrangements are being made through the Stringer Funeral Home https://www.stringerfh.com Calling hours will be Friday, Nov 4th from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Stringer Funeral Home on Broad St in Claremont NH. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Sat, Nov 5th, 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney VT.
