Stephen B. Carley UNITY — Stephen B. Carley passed away peacefully on November 3, 2022 at the Jack Bryne Palliative Care Center with Carole, his loving wife of fifty-seven years, holding his hand and surrounded by the love of many family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Iva (Balla) Carley; maternal grandparents John and Belle (Lufkin) Balla and paternal grandparents, Elmer Roswell Carley and Maude (Palmer) Carley. He is survived by his wife Carole (Champney) Carley, a son, Jim Carley and wife, Heather of Newport, New Hampshire, a daughter Christine Blaine and husband, Jeffrey, of Unity. New Hampshire and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brothers Edward and wife Susan Carley, Michael and wife Alice Carley all from Lake Wales, Florida, and William and wife Linda Carley of Newport, New Hampshire. He was always on wheels going places starting with his first bicycle that took him from Croydon to South Acworth at the age of ten without his mother’s knowledge to driving a Rokon motorcycle with his brother-in-law as a passenger in a side car from Newport to Springfield Mass through the woods. He loved the smell of two-stroke oil and spent many happy hours setting up and riding trail rides through the woods. He enjoyed stopping to talk to people he met who were on foot, horseback or other wheeled vehicles promoting trailbikes. He loved every one of his dogs and would say if he won Megabucks no dog would be homeless in New Hampshire. He also enjoyed snowmobiles, skiing, scratch tickets, putting together puzzles, woodworking and especially making hundreds of Lincoln logs for his grandchildren and always loved riding the back roads of New England, but being sure to never take the same way home. Steve taught his children to ski, to ride motorcycles, to work hard, love their animals and take care of their people. Steve joined the Navy in May of 1966 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and two tours on the USS Columbus in the Mediterranean as an electrician mate. After discharge, he worked in construction, at Strum Ruger, and retired from the Town of Newport as a loader operator after many years as a snowplow truck driver never being stopped by ice or snow or 24-hour storms. A celebration of his life will be held at the Unity Fire Department on Saturday, November 12th. from 1:00 to 4:00. Please stop in and share your memories with family and other friends. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family suggests contributions may be made to the Jack Byrne Palliative and Hospice Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire or a humane society of your choice.
