BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — Three out of the five scheduled comics performed at the Bellows Falls Opera House with a surprise fourth comic, Josie Leavitt, founder of the Vermont Comedy Divas Troupe. They managed to raise a couple grand despite the change in the comedy lineup.

The Chamber of Commerce was able to raise approximately $2032.00. “We will use this money towards expanding our educational and training series for our members,” Deb Collier, Regional Chamber Director said.

Sean Roberts, Bellows Falls Opera House event coordinator confirmed the evening was a success in two ways. Roberts said the audience was happy and a repeat performance is hoped for.

“The Comedy Divas went over splendidly. We ended up getting a turnout of about 206 patrons. The performers enjoyed themselves and we hope they will return next year,” Roberts said. “We would love for this to be an annual production at the Bellows Falls Opera House. The audience laughed and seemed to enjoy itself.”

The comedic storytelling of four women from different backgrounds ranged from the follies of parenthood, finding new love and campaigning for a political seat at the local dump.

Autumn Engroff Spencer, comic and mother, talked about her experiences in young motherhood raising her children and their interpretations of what most parents find to be tried and true.

“Kids are so bad at feeding themselves,” Spencer said. “They get so hangry and it’s your fault. I just spent four hours shopping for the best, most organic Vermont food and you can’t find anything to eat.”

Spencer also told the audience that aging was a double-edged sword of knowledge and risk.

“You can’t ever assume that something might not happen to you,” Spencer said.

Josie Leavitt finished the comedy show with a warm reception from the audience for her win in the political seat and her unexpected return to the stage.

Leavitt talked about her campaign in the Burlington area and how she wasn’t dressed appropriately for her campaign on Zoom, at a honk and wave or at the local dump.

{p dir=”ltr”}“The meeting was so long I got sort of in my jammies being on Zoom, the meeting went so long I sort of tucked myself into bed,” Leavitt said. “So, then it’s election day, coldest day of the year and it was really testing our metal. The day before we were at a honk and wave and it’s 70 degrees and we’re in shorts.”

Overall, the show was extremely successful and BFOH Event Coordinator, Sean Roberts, said he hopes this will be a regular and annual ritual performance.
