La Salette Lights Up the Night

ENFIELD — Despite the rising cost of fuel and energy, the La Salette Display of Lights will be turned on Thanksgiving Day. Once again, the Festival of Light will give many visitors from throughout the northeast a peaceful respite from the issues troubling them and society in today’s world. With it’s focus on the spiritual message of Christmas, the lights and Shrine give all a chance to take pause from hectic lives and endless aisles of today’s lost meaning of Christmas. The lights will be turned on Thanksgiving Day, but the Official Opening is on Saturday the 26th of November. As in the past, the Plainfield Chimers (Bell Ringers) will perform at the opening ceremony. From opening night until the closing on Sunday the 1st of January 2023, the lights will be on Wednesday thru Sunday and off on Monday/Tuesday nights. La Salette Priests will be available offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights and 5:15 to 6:00 p.m. prior to Mass on Saturdays. Light refreshments, along with hot chocolate and coffee will be available in the cafeteria to take away the chill on cold N.H.evenings. Model Trains will be running on all nights sponsored by the Mt. Washington Cog RR and run by the Connecticut Valley Model RR Club. Concerts, caroling, and a special Ukrainian Christmas Celebration will highlight the Light Display!

La Salette Shrine was first consecrated in May of 1951 and has held the Festival of Light Display since then. Thousands have traveled from throughout the Northeast to enjoy the beauty and solace of the Shrine in Enfield, once the home of one of two New Hampshire Shaker

Communities. The land was sold to the La Salette Order of Priests and Brothers to continue the work of God. As a Missionary Order, the La Salettes continue to do God’s work in the Upper Valley and throughout the world today.
