CHESTER, Vt. — The Chester Police Department responded to a two-car crash on Route 103 North just on the outskirts of the village.
According to a post on the Chester Police Department’s Facebook page, at approximately 9 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022, a vehicle traveling northbound towards Ludlow crossed the center line and collided into the left hand lane, and as the driver was trying to correct the direction, Vehicle 1 crashed into another vehicle traveling south on 103. Vehicle 2, in an attempt to avert the vehicle, found no space and consequently was hit head on by Vehicle 1. The Chester Police Department responded to the scene and upon investigation found no one under the influence or anything suspicious.
The operator of Vehicle 1, a 2020 Dodge Durango, 22-year-old Yaoxian Liang of Storrs, Connecticut reported that they had looked down at the warning light on their dashboard and lost control of the vehicle trying to navigate the corner, lost control and collided into Vehicle 2, a 2020 Kia Sedan.
Liang and his passenger, 21-year-old Shiwen Shang, reportedly sustained no injuries. The occupants of Vehicle 2, James Bossong (49), Erin O’Grady (38), Juvenile (7), Juvenile (4), all of Chittenden, Vermont, were transported to Springfield Hospital via ambulance and released with minor injuries to the children.
According to police, the crash was due to Liang’s failure to keep his vehicle in the proper travel lane and traveling left of center. Inattentiveness also reportedly played a role in this crash.
Liang was issued 1 UTT for failure to keep right in the lane of travel.
