Dorothy Jeane Burden STRAFFORD, VT — Dorothy Jeane Burden passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022 in Norwich, VT. Dorothy was born in Marlboro, MA on September 21, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Laverne and Dorothy Clow Bushnell. She grew up in Keene NH, where both parents were teachers. She graduated from Keene High School in 1950 and Keene Teachers College in 1954. On May 5, 1956 she married William Burden and they shared the next 64 years of their life together until his passing in July of 2020. Dot taught at a number of schools around the Nashua and Manchester area including St. Anselm’s College, Rivier College and Spring Street Junior High. Over the course of her lifetime she was active in Girl Scouts as a leader and enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, quilting, baking, making teddy bears, sewing, rug braiding as well as Ham radio (KA1LDS-SK). Following her retirement, she and Bill moved to Strafford, VT where they were active members of the United Church of Strafford. Dot later moved to the Valley Terrace Retirement Community in Norwich, VT. Dorothy is survived by her children Verne Burden of Strafford, VT, Barbara Carswell (William) of Charlottesville, VA and David Burden (Diane) of Claremont, NH; four grandchildren Allison Carswell of Charlottesville, VA, Bill Carswell of Blacksburg, VA, Anthony Burden (Jordan) of Norway, ME, and Samantha Cortese (Daniel) of Claremont, NH; two great grandchildren Ryker Burden and Áine Cortese; sister-in-law Peggy Burden (Cat) of West Fairlee, VT as well as special cousins Ken Bushnell (Marcia) and Lewis Bushnell (Karen), and their extended family. Dot is predeceased by her parents, her husband William A. Burden, and sister, Marilyn E. Bushnell. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Strafford Cemetery in Strafford, VT.
