Jennie A. Walsh CLAREMONT — Jennie Adamovich Walsh passed away peacefully on December 14th. She was born In Claremont on November 2, 1925 to Ignacy Adamovich and Traza Duroc Adamovich, two immigrants from the Belarus area. Jennie was one of 10 children in the family, and she was the remaining member. She was baptized in the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Claremont, where she remained a lifelong and faithful member of that close knit church community. Jennie is survived by her son, Greg Walsh (Patty) of Essex Junction, Vermont, her daughter, Martha (Dr. Peter Bloland) of Atlanta, GA, her grandson, Allan J. Walsh of Williston, VT, and several nieces and nephews, especially Linda Boisvert and Michael Walsh. Jennie graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont in 1943. Jennie married James H. Walsh in February of 1947 and they were happily married for nearly 40 years when he passed away in October of 1985. She and Jim both worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Windsor until they both retired. Jennie spent 26 years there – initially as a secretary to the Traffic Manager and then as a keypunch operator. After Jim’s death, she began working evenings at Windsor Hospital as a switchboard operator to fill her evenings. Jennie learned to love the game of golf and even continued to take lessons into her 80s. She travelled extensively with two dear friends, Eleanor (Ellie) Faust and Mae Churchill. They joined several Elderhostel trips and also travelled around in Ellie’s camper van. She told her family that her favorite trip was to Norway although she also enjoyed visiting Alaska. With Ellie’s and Mae’s encouragement, she began cross-country skiing. She spent several Thanksgivings with her daughter and other family members on St. George Island in Florida and loved walking on the beach with her family and their dogs. Although a cat owner, she became a consummate dog sitter for Martha and Peter. Jennie was always a stoic and an optimist. She weathered a lot of challenges and always pulled through, including a fractured C2 vertebrae, a broken pelvis, a broken femur that required surgical intervention, and two bouts with Covid 19. We all hoped that her recent stroke at the end of August would be yet another challenge that she’d overcome but it was not to be. After Jim’s death, Jennie continued to keep her huge yard maintained and a vegetable garden producing. As she aged, she asked for an electric start lawn mower to replace the pull start Toro since she could no longer get it started but it was very important to her to do this herself. She also became a voracious reader and especially enjoyed mysteries. Another aspect to Jennie’s expanding interests was that she became a skilled quilter and many members of her family benefitted from her expertise. She also made baby quilts for new members of her church and donated quilts for church raffles. Jennie’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hanover Terrace and Bayada for their kind and thoughtful care during her final months.
