William Lewis CLAREMONT — William “Bill” Lewis passed away peacefully, at home on February 3, 2023, after a period of failing health. Bill was born on February 24,1936, in Claremont, NH, to Robert and Elizabeth (Giddings) Lewis. He was a lifelong resident of Claremont, and as a young man was an active member of the Junctioneers Ice Skating Club. Bill attended Stevens High School. After graduating in 1955, he married the love of his life, Joan Murphy on August 25, 1956. He was employed by the City of Claremont Cemetery Department, retiring after 40 years, the majority of which he served in the capacity of Superintendent. Bill was a skilled furniture craftsman as well as an avid hunter and fisherman. He enthusiastically shared his knowledge and appreciation of the outdoors with his family and friends. As a result of his love for the “North Country” Bill and Joan built a vacation home in Clarksville, NH, where they spent many years enjoying family time at his beloved “Grouse House”. Bill will be remembered for his love of nature, his penchant for storytelling and above all else his pride and boundless love of his family. He is predeceased by his parents, and sister Phyllis Crawford. Bill is survived by his wife Joan, children; Bill Lewis and wife Lorrie Lewis, of Cornish; Cheryl Sharkey and husband Jim Sharkey, of Pawtucket RI, Dan Lewis and wife Jill Lewis, of Claremont, as well as his grandchildren; Erin Lewis and her partner Francis Bouchard, Chris Lewis, Emily Sharkey, Luke Sharkey and great grandson Frankie Bouchard, who will all lovingly remember him as “Binky”. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Claremont, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 10:30 AM. At the request of the family there will be no visiting hours, and a private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cornish Rescue Squad, P.O.
