Donald B. Fontaine, Jr. CLAREMONT — Donald B. Fontaine, Jr. was born at Claremont General Hospital on October 16, 1944 to Donald Fontaine, Sr & Rita (Girard)Fontaine. Don grew up on Elm St, farming with his dad & family. Attending St. Mary elementary & high school, he graduated in1962. On September 7th, 1963, Don married his high school sweetheart, Anne B. (Descoteau) Fontaine. Don worked for Cone Machinery and Joy Manufacturing. Machining, then in the engineering department. He was a volunteer fireman briefly with the Claremont Fire Department and in 1974 moved to law enforcement which was the beginning of his 45-year career. Starting as a patrolman, he was promoted to sergeant and had the K-9 unit with Baron as his trusty partner. In 1997 Don retired as a Lieutenant from the Claremont PD. He was honored by the city of Claremont by proclamation of June 28th being named “Donald B Fontaine, Jr Day”. He didn’t stay retired as he immediately went to work for, then sheriff, Mike Prozzo as a Deputy Sheriff until his 2nd retirement in 2019. Don is survived by his wife, Anne; daughter Rita (Fontaine) Martin, son-in-law Tom Martin; daughters Marissa Fontaine, and Doni (Donnice) Fontaine; grandsons Matthew Fontaine and Elias Martin, granddaughter Cassandra Plankey; 10 great-grandchildren as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law Peter & Betty Fontaine, Robin & Laurie Fontaine; 2 nephews, 3 nieces and many cousins. Visiting hours will be Sunday afternoon, March 5th at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, in Claremont, NH from 2 to 4PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Claremont, on Monday, March 6th at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
