Trucker’s Drunk Drive: Hawk Arrested for Aggravated DWI and Open Container

NEW LONDON — The New Hampshire State Police arrested a tractor-trailer driver in New London on March 11. State Police alleged that Thomas Hawk, 64, Newburgh, New York, was intoxicated while operating a tractor double-trailer truck. In a press release, State Police stated that an open container of alcohol was found in the truck.

During a roadside investigation, Hawk was arrested for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Open Container.

State Trooper Kenneth McGrath saw Hawk pulling off I-89 at Exit 11 after a concerned motorist called police to report a tractor trailer driving recklessly. According to the press release, the caller said the truck was driving all over the road and, at one point, may have struck a guardrail.

Hawk was released on personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to appear at the Newport District Court at 8 a.m., April 11.

The most recent data compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that approximately 32 people die in drunk driving accidents every day.
