In early February, like many of you, I received a rather odd letter from Claremont Animal Hospital stating that Dr Fisher retired. Effective Immediately. It seemed strange as Dr Fisher and I had just made plans to work together the following week. We’ve been patients for more than 10 years and as breeders we worked very closely. He did let us know last year that in July of 2023 he planned to retire, but would assist us in transitioning to another Vet. As was his nature, he’d make sure we had a plan in place. So, what was going on?
Last week, we received yet another letter from Claremont Animal Hospital. This time from Dr Fisher which clearly contradicts the “early retirement” email of a month ago. He explained that it was not his decision and that he would not have left his patients without a contingency plan. (Interestingly enough the very same thing happened a year ago to the Office Manager of 16 years, Theresa)
We constantly hear how tough Veterinary medicine is these days and I honestly question how much of it is corporate greed? Small practices being bought up by corporations who then let the experienced staff go.
I know I speak for many families- Dr Fisher’s reputation, experience and incredible dedication will be sorely missed So, though he’s no longer at Claremont Animal Hospital, his legacy lives on. The once thriving practice he bought and grew in his 40 plus years will be down to one Vet at the end of April. They’ll no longer be offering Reproductive services, Ortho treatment and surgeries, no farm calls, no after hours appointments or large animals. So sad.
You deserved better Dr Fisher, and so did your patients. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the outstanding care we received from you!
