SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Bellows Falls senior Jamison Nystrom was brilliant on Saturday, tossing a near perfect no-hitter against Springfield during the Terriers 12-0 win at Bursky-Wyman Field.

Theron Fletcher’s RBI single gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead, and that would be all the masterful Nystrom would need. Springfield kept things close, as Cosmos’ pitcher Logan Roundy matched Nystrom into the third inning, with Bellows Falls holding onto a 1-0 lead.

The game changed quickly in the fourth, when Jake Moore walked and eventually crossed the plate on a balk. A perfect suicide squeeze by Walker James kept building the Terriers lead as Jaxson Clark crossed the dish. “We work hard on fundamentals and especially bunting. It’s important to be consistent. We did a good job today,” said Bellows Falls Coach Bob Lockerby.

In the fifth inning, bunting played a key role again as Jesse Darrell pushed a great bunt down the third base line, allowing Fletcher to score the sixth Terriers run after Fletcher grabbed his second hit of the day. “I’m really seeing the ball well and when there’s contact, I just hustle to the bag,” said Fletcher.

The Terriers blew things wide open off the bat of Clark, as his double plated three Terriers, giving Nystrom all the run support he would need, and then some.

Moore helped the Bellows Falls by gunning down Springfield’s Logan Harriman after he walked and tried to make something happen by attempting to steal second.

Nystrom would fan the side to end the game as he finished with 12 strikeouts on 86 pitches, allowing two walks and not giving up a single hit. “Everything was finding its spot today. I was going with my curve then going to my fastball and it just felt right today,” said the senior.

“What an unbelievable performance. Jamison bordered on perfection today. As a team we were consistent and were fundamentally sound,” said Lockerby.

Bellows Falls improves to 3-1 and will host Burr and Burton on Thursday. Springfield will look to get into the win column on Tuesday hosting White River Valley.
