The Bellows Falls Union High School Terriers hosted the Windsor High School Yellow Jackets in a baseball/softball double-header on Tuesday. They took both games, as the Bellows Falls Boys edged the Jacks 6-5 and the Terriers softballers remained undefeated, besting the Yellow Jackets 6-3.
Baseball BF 6, Windsor 5
Bellows Falls came back to grab a lead and held on to edge Windsor 6-5 in a sloppy, error-filled game. Both teams collected a total of 11 hits and 11 errors on a dreary day with a total of six pitchers taking turns on the mound.
It was Clark vs. Clark to start the game, as BF went with Jason while Windsor countered with Johnny. The Terriers took a 3-1 lead after the first inning, but Windsor chipped away to grab the lead.
Tanner Moody would double in Trevor Lagrow. Then, a bunch of miscues allowed Moody and Maison Fortin to score, and Windsor grabbed a 5-4 lead.
Windsor caught the error bug in the Bellows Falls half of the inning as the Terriers Jamison Nystrom reached on an error, then would score on an error. Jesse Darrell crossed the plate on the heels of a fielder’s choice off the bat of Trenton Fletcher, to put Bob Lockerby’s team up 6-5. That wound up being the last of the offense for the day.
There were all zeros the rest of the way as Lee Bevis pitched a scoreless inning for Jamie Richardson’s Jacks while Eli Albee and Nystrom did the same for the Terriers who improved to 4-3 with the 6-5 win. Clark led Windsor with two hits while Fletcher had two hits for the Terriers.
Nystrom took over the team lead in steals from Jake Moore with four swipes on the day.
Softball, BF 6, Windsor 3
The Jacks jumped out quickly and held the lead until the Terriers found some magic to score six runs late to grab a win and stay undefeated, 6-3.
Cassie Clark would single to drive in Mackenzie Kleefisch, then Sydney Perry’s RBI ground-out plated Clark, and Windsor was thinking upset, leading 2-0 into the fifth inning.
Jaelyn Fletcher got the ball rolling for Bellows Falls with a double. She then scored off a single by Kayli Aldrich. Jenna Dolloph’s single tied the game, scoring Aldrich, then Natalie Noyes’ single sent Dolloph home, and the Terriers grabbed a 3-2 lead.
The BF offense wasn’t done yet, as they added three more runs in the next inning to grab a 6-3 lead. With two outs, Emma Spaulding singled and Dolloph doubled to bring in three more runs, as Izzy Stoodley got the win with 118 pitches.
Spaulding, Dolloph, Emma Thompson and Aldrich all had two hits for the Terriers, while Alanah Macallister, Noyes and Aldrich had a hit each. Clark had the only two hits for Windsor.
