Westminster, VT —Five of Kurn Hattin Homes’ middle school students: Abak, Angong, Athel, Awel, and Tegan, were invited to participate in New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI) event of the year dance performance. This was an incredible opportunity for them which culminated in two performances on Sunday, May 28 at the Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College.
The program, “Unearthed!” is a magical tour of a unique museum. Over 300 area children performed an exciting tale as they UNEARTHed the richly storied histories of the museum pieces, as well as the artists and communities that produced them. Additionally, the children were challenged to “unearth” bits of their own stories to connect and share. The Kurn Hattin Homes’ students were part of the opening scene when each school danced across the stage, and then they danced, along with the NHDI celebration team, to “Hip to Be Square,” by Huey Lewis and the News. They wore costumes to match the painting, Composition with Red Blue and Yellow, by Piet Mondrian which was projected on the big screen behind them. They were also part of the finale dance number with all the participating students on stage. They did such a great job and inspired the other KHH students in the audience to participate next year.
NHDI’s art education program uses the art of dance and music to communicate, educate, and engage the youth in our community.
