CFA Reflects on Past Year

New London, June 7 – As this school year wraps up, the Center for the Arts Lake Sunapee Region (CFA) is delighted to highlight its contributions to fostering a rich creative environment for students throughout the year. From facilitating unique musical experiences to supporting artistic endeavors, the CFA has been at the forefront of empowering young talent and promoting artistic education.

October witnessed a collaboration between the CFA, KRHS, and the renowned Dallas Brass. The CFA supported the KRHS effort to bring the Dallas Brass to our region, enabling them to perform and engage with music students. The students had the privilege of working closely with the Dallas Brass, an experience that left an indelible mark on their musical journeys.

Continuing its commitment to inspiring young minds, in November, the CFA proudly contributed to two captivating performances by Christopher Martiello. Martiello demonstrated the ethereal sounds of the theremin, captivating the audiences at Sutton and New London elementary schools. Through these immersive experiences, students gained insight into the possibilities of unconventional musical instruments, expanding their horizons and nurturing their artistic curiosity.

December brought forth an array of exciting initiatives. The CFA organized the Teen Writing Contest, offering students an opportunity to showcase their literary prowess. Awards and prizes were presented to the winners, recognizing their talent and encouraging their creative expression.

Additionally, the CFA supported Maddie Stephenson’s’ visit to KRHS in May. Maddie, a film composer, worked closely with music students, sharing her expertise and insights. The collaborative sessions fostered an environment of innovation and mentorship, empowering students to explore their own musical compositions.

In April, the CFA made a significant contribution to the Akwaaba Ensemble in-residence program in Bradford. The program provided students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of African music and dance. Through workshops and performances, students developed a deep appreciation for diversity and cultural expression.

The commitment to nurturing artistic education continued into May, as the CFA lent its support to the East Bay Jazz programs in Sutton and New London. This sponsorship allowed students to participate in jazz workshops, enhancing their musical skills and promoting a lifelong love for this distinct genre.

Most recently, CFA announced the winners of the CFA Art Contest for elementary age students. The outstanding artwork, created by talented young artists, is currently on display at the Kearsarge School Administrative Unit (SAU). This exhibition not only showcases the immense creativity of these students but also serves as a testament to CFA’s commitment to nurturing the artistic talents of the next generation.

These diverse initiatives undertaken by the Center for the Arts Lake Sunapee Region truly highlight its dedication to cultivating a vibrant and creative environment for students. By providing access to renowned artists, organizing contests, and supporting educational programs, the CFA plays an integral role in shaping the artistic landscape of the region.
