Facing Oily Mess, Grantham Asks Residents for Help

The Town of Grantham is asking residents to be more aware of what they are disposing of.

The Town’s Transfer Station currently accepts used motor oil for recycling. However, when residents mix oils present in other substances with motor oil, it creates problems for the Town.

“The motor oil we collect is recycled, so when it is contaminated with non-motor oil, it then becomes hazardous material that will cost the Town a lot of money to dispose of properly,” the Town said in a public notice.

To prevent the problems, residents are now required to see an attendant before leaving motor oil, and the jug containing the oil must have the resident’s name and phone number on it.
