A Claremont man was sentenced to 3.5 to 10 years in state prison Thursday.
Brett Lawton pleaded guilty to a felony count of Receiving Stolen Property and two felony counts of Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon, according to a press release from Sullivan County Attorney Marc Hathaway.
Lawton was sentenced to 3.5 to 10 years in the New Hampshire State Prison for receiving a pickup that was stolen from McGee Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM of Springfield, Vermont.
He was also sentenced to two 3.5 to 7 years for the Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon arising out of his operation of the stolen truck while fleeing from Claremont police officers on Dec. 30, 2022. The first sentence is to be served concurrently with his sentence for receiving the truck, and the second is to be suspended for 10 years conditioned on good behavior.
The sentences are the result of a plea deal between the State and Lawton.
The sentences were imposed by Sullivan County Superior Court Justice Martin Honigberg after Lawton’s guilty pleas were entered accepted by the Court.
The case was investigated by the Claremont Police Department, the lead investigative agency, with the assistance of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Drug Task, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Plainfield Police, Cornish Police and New Hampshire State Police.
