Thursday will bring family fun to Barre’s Thunder Road Speedbowl with a race card headlined by Round 2 of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers. A
M&T Bank Night will also feature kid’s rides from 4 to 4:45 p.m. and it’s Scout Night, with all scouts in uniform given free admission.
After taking the Round One win just three weeks ago, 2018 Myers Triple Crown Champion Joel Hodgdon looks to be the first to win multiple series championships since its inception back in 2017. The Hardwick driver is tied with Jason Woodard for most Myers extra-distance wins at three.
Kevin Streeter and defending series champion Derrick Calkins were both hot on Hodgdon’s heels in Round One, but luck of the ACT Plus/Minus Handicap draw could also play a role as track championship hot-shoes like Sam Caron, Jason Pelkey and Logan Powers look to capitalize as well.
After taking off from the outside pole one week ago, Tyler Cahoon was able to hold off a hard-charging Stephen Martin to claim his first victory of the 2023 season and the Maplewood/Irving Late Model point lead.
Nick Sweet and Kaiden Fisher made big gains last week as well with the defending Memorial Day Classic winner earning his first top-5 since the holiday weekend and “Tropical Storm” taking his first top-5 finish of the season, using it to take the rookie lead away from Justin Prescott.
Cody Blake, defending champion Chris Pelkey and Kyle Pembroke continue to be a trio of the most consistent drivers, each having finished in the top-10 in all four point-counting events this season.
The rk Miles Street Stocks continue to showcase four-cylinder racing with five different winners in as many events this season. The top-three drivers are separated by just three points with Northfield’s James Dopp taking a two-point lead over Pittsfield’s Juan “Paco” Marshall.
Former track champions Jeffery Martin, Jamie Davis and Dean Switser Jr. struggled last week. While the champs are looking to bounce back, first-time winners Jesse Laquerre and Trevor Jaques are both looking to take back-to-back victories on M&T Bank Night.
Races will start at 6 p.m.
