Charles B. Saunders

Charles B. Saunders CLAREMONT, NH -Charles Byron Saunders, Jr, 92, life-long resident of Claremont, passed away after a period of failing health. Charles was born July 29th, 1930, to Charles Byron, Sr, and Eva Rainey Saunders. He graduated from Stevens High School in 1948. He served in the US Army as an MP during the Korean war. Upon his return from the military, he began working for New England Telephone/Verizon, retiring in 1989. After his retirement, Charles spent most of his time at his camp in Brownsville, VT. He always loved being outdoors, hunting or fishing with friends and/or family. When not working on his land or his camp, or hunting with his wife, he could be found helping friends and neighbors as “Charlie the Handyman”. There was nothing that he couldn’t fix! Charles leaves behind his wife of 58+ years Brenda Colby Saunders and his three daughters Phyllis Gagnon (Raymond) of Claremont, Paula Simonds of Bridgton, ME, and Christine Record (Robert) of Contoocook. He also leaves behind his four grandchildren, Charles Simonds, Brian Simonds, Elyse Crossman (Stephen), and Justin Gadwah, along with 9 great grandchildren (Mikayla, Bailey, Lacey, Molly, Dillon, Miles, Charlotte, Rory & Ryan). He was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Saunders Porter. Calling hours will be July 15, 2023, at Stringer Funeral Home, from 10am – 11am with a service at 11:00, comital to follow, at St Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation in Charles name, to the Wildlife Foundation or Animal Shelter of your choice.
