The Claremont City Council approved the city’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget at its meeting on June 28.
The motion to approve $19.516 million general fund budget was made by Councilor William Limoges and seconded by Councilor Jonathan Stone. It passed unanimously.
Per the Council’s direction, Finance Director Diane Mulholland changed the Municipal Complex line item to $603,058. The revenue sits at $7.191 million.
Assistant Mayor Deborah Matteau moved to add $250,000 to the roads budget to address side street issues, seconded by Councilor Spencer Batchelder. The change was approved, with Councilor Andrew O’Hearne voting no.
On May 20, Mayor Dale Girard said when the councilors did the communications budget, they took the budget revenue off the line item and ended up with $580,000. The actual number is $629,131. The sanitation budget was read at $25,800 instead of the actual total of $25,500.
Stone moved to remove a $20,000 hold in the budget for the airport manager, which brought that budget down to $166,450.
The Council unanimously approved a Tax Anticipation Note, which Mulholland said is used in case the city “needs money.” The note will allow the city treasurer to issue and sell debt, not to exceed $4 million, in anticipation of tax receipts. The notes also must be less than the total tax levy, which sits at $42.143 million.
The Council unanimously approved $2.193 million for the Water Division, $2.928 million for the Sewer Division and the Tax Increment Finance budget, which has $795,409 budgeted in revenues and expenses.
