Concord, N.H. — Attorney General John Formella and Somersworth Police Chief Timothy McLin announce the arrest of Brian Roberge, 52, of Somersworth, N.H., in the murder of Jan VanTassel, 79, of Center Ossipee.
At 11:19 p.m., Friday, police officers responded to the Somersworth Walmart in response to a report of an assault.
Upon arriving, officers found VanTassel unresponsive with visible head and facial injuries. He was declared dead at the scene by first responders.
Roberge is charged with second-degree murder, having “recklessly caused the death of Mr. VanTassel under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life by striking him repeatedly in the head and face,” according to a announcement from New Hampshire Attorney General Formella.
Roberge is expected to be arraigned today in the Strafford County Superior Court.
