Leon T. Russell Jr.

Leon T. Russell Jr. CLAREMONT, NH -Leon Thomas Russell Jr. AKA Tom the Tax Man passed away on July 16, 2023 following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on December 10, 1959 the son of Leon and Barbara (Hooper) Russell in Newport, NH. Tom grew up in Claremont, NH and developed a love for sports. He spent many days of his childhood playing baseball with his siblings and other children of River Street. He graduated from Stevens High School in 1977. Tom married Lorie St. Aubin on May 21, 1977. He had a variety of jobs through the years including Bourdon’s Mattress, Joy Manufacturing, Whipple Paper Converters and Dorr Woolen, where he was president of the local union. Later in his life he ran several businesses including, Mountain Man Motors and LTR Taxes. He loved being able to connect with people through playing baseball, softball, his poetry, umpiring, bowling, singing karaoke, coaching his kid’s baseball, basketball and soccer teams, cheering on his kids during their sports, activities and sharing his many stories. Tom lived most of his life in Unity, NH, where he raised his children. He was always more than happy to share his pride in his kid’s and later his grandkids. Tom was a family man who always looked forward to holidays and family gatherings. Tom is survived by his mother, Barbara Russell; his sisters, Joan (Dennis) Kennett and Kathy Russell; his brothers, Earl Russell, Ted (Hope) Russell, Randy (Teri) Russell and Michael (Kimberly) Russell; also his pride and joy , his children, Shawn (Amanda) Russell, Shannon (George) Popescu; his adopted children, Nick (Brandy) Bugbee, Tristen (Avery) Bugbee; his greatest joy was his grandchildren, Nicolae Popescu, Asher Russell, Callen Bugbee, Adaeus, Jameson, Aria and Sterling Bugbee. He is also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He has too many friends to list them all but special thanks to Tina Buck, Rusty Camber and Peggy Simmimo for their constant friendships and helpfulness during these last few months. Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH Thursday, July 20th from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 21st at 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Center Cemetery in Unity, NH. In honor of Tom’s love of sports, the family encourages friends and family to come wearing their favorite sports team attire. A special thanks to the caring staff at Valley Regional Hospital.
