The fall semester is fast approaching, but it’s not too late to decide to go to college! There’s still plenty of time left this summer to prepare for a smooth transition into college life at River Valley Community College. Once you’ve been accepted just follow these steps to get started:

Meet With Your Advisor

Think of academic advisors as your go-to support team. From helping you with finding or changing your program of study, to internship assistance and job search strategies, your advisor helps you through every step of your educational journey. At River Valley Community College, you can meet with our team of advisors in the Advising, Career and Transfer Center in Claremont, or by appointment in Lebanon and Keene.

Register For Courses ASAP

Once you’ve determined your academic pathway, it’s time to register for courses. Registering early gives you the top pick of courses and allows you to figure out your schedule in advance. Enrollment for Fall 2023 courses at River Valley Community College is open now. If you register in July, you’ll also be entered into our raffle with prizes ranging from $50 to $200 in value.

Confirm Payments and Financial Aid

Paying for college can be simple, if you set up payment arrangements ahead of time. It’s not too late to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Even if you are not planning to take out loans, by filling out the FAFSA, you’ll open opportunities to receive grants and scholarships. With the New Hampshire Promise Program launching this summer, students eligible for the Pell Grant may receive additional funding to cover the full cost of tuition. River Valley Community College’s financial aid office can help with filing the FAFSA, processing grants and scholarships and can help with setting up payment plans for those paying out of pocket.

Review Required Materials

Most college courses require textbooks. Depending on the program, you may also be responsible for additional materials and tools. Reviewing the course details ahead of time and reaching out to your instructor with any requirement questions gives you time to order and receive items before class starts. River Valley Community College’s bookstore is now 100% online with an easy-to-use search feature. Simply enter the course and see what books and materials are needed for your course and they’ll ship right to your home.

Attend New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is an opportunity to learn essential and helpful information about the college experience before starting your classes. You will be alerted to other resources and services offered by the college and can tour the campus and meet fellow students. River Valley Community College offers both in-person and online orientation options to best fit the needs of students. The goal of orientation is to facilitate a welcoming, inclusive, and informative transition that promotes student success and academic achievement at River Valley Community College.
