Albert “David” Pierce WINDSOR, VT -Albert “David” Pierce, 91, formerly of Windsor, VT died at home in Middleboro, MA on Saturday, July 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. David was born on February 21, 1932, in Windsor, VT, the eldest child of Leon and Henrietta Pierce. He grew up in Hartland, VT with his siblings, Charlie & Ruth. They spent much of their time adventuring in the hills of Hartland and learning how to garden, hunt and fish at a young age. This resourcefulness and hard work ethic were consistent traits throughout his life. David graduated from Windsor High School in the class of 1950. Later that year, he and many of his friends enlisted in the US Airforce. He was a radio mechanic stationed stateside at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and abroad in Germany and Morocco. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to Windsor, VT, and worked at Cones Manufacturing as a draftsman. He was a frequent guest at the Sunday dinner table of his good friend John Burrington; to enjoy both his grandmother’s delicious cooking…and the company of his sister, Joyce. David and Joyce were married on May 26, 1956. Their daughter, Amy, was born a year later. After a number of years at Cones, he became a salesman for Fuller Brush. Upon his father-in-law’s passing, David was approached by Nationwide Insurance to take over his agency. David and Joyce moved “up to the farm” to live with Joyce’s mother and run the insurance agency. Eventually, he and Joyce purchased an old bank building on Main Street in Windsor and moved the agency to this downtown location. They worked as a team, David as agent and Joyce as office manager, successfully growing the agency with hard work and integrity. It was a rewarding endeavor and David retired after 35 years in the business. David was also dedicated to his community. He served in many organizations, including the Jaycees, Hospital Auxiliary, Old South Church Prudential Committee, Windsor Improvement Corporation and the Lions Club. But David’s life was not all work. He was a dependable, solid family man. He and Joyce proved that opposites attract: David the introvert, Joyce the extrovert. He supported Joyce in her post-retirement antique business, as she had supported the insurance agency. They indulged in some great adventures together to Bermuda, Hilton Head and a cross-country train voyage to California. Summers also meant wonderful times in Wells, Maine, often in the company of their friends Helen and Arnold George. David always looked forward to crab hunting in the tidal pools with his daughter and later granddaughter, reading the latest Patterson book, Mike’s seafood chowder, chippie dippies on the lawn with the Parkers and Eve and Sally, and rousing beach bocce ball battles with his son-in-law Jason and Arnold George. He and Joyce fulfilled a dream by purchasing a condo at Wells for their retirement. David and Joyce were just shy of their 65th wedding anniversary upon her death in 2021. He then moved to Massachusetts to live with daughter Amy, and son-in-law Jason. His much-adored granddaughter Megan lived just a few blocks away. David is survived by his sister Ruth, daughter Amy and husband Jason, grand-daughter Megan and husband Mark and a large extended family. He will be dearly missed. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce, and brother Charlie of Hartland. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Knight Funeral Home in Windsor followed by burial in the Ascutney Cemetery also in Windsor. Condolences may be made in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Windsor Lions Club or Windsor Public Library.
