SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Bella Fraser, 6, lives with her parents in Springfield. At an early age, she was raised to understand why her parents work.
On a Sunny Saturday in late June, Fraser was in the car with her mother Erika driving through Charlestown, N.H., on a Community Yard Sale Day when she saw some children running their own lemonade stand.
“ ‘Mom, I want to open my own lemonade stand so I can make my own money and buy my own things so you dad don’t have to,’ “ Bella’s mother, Elissa Fraser, recalled her daughter saying.
Fraser, a little surprised, impressed, and touched by her daughter‘s independence sat down with her to make a plan.
Bella said she and her mom made signs, gathered the items needed for her stand, and went out to get the lemonade.
On July 15, Bella opened for business at noon and stayed open until 5 p.m.
“I made probably almost $80,” Bellsa said. “Now, when I go to Maine with my parents, they don’t have to spend any money on me. I want to open up after we get back at least one more time.”
Fraser said her daughter has always known that it takes work to make money, but she was a little surprised that Bella would become a 6-years-old go-getter.
Fraser said Bella also compensated her friend Hunter for helping her run the stand for the last hour with lemonade and cookies. She gave him her prized fairy wand.
Fraser said her daughter has been thinking about saving some of the money, and thinking about a local charity to donate a portion of her earnings to from her next pop-up stand. The family hopes to announce the date at least two days in advance.
