ROCKINGHAM, VT–Residents of Rockingham are gearing up for Old Home Days, their much-anticipated, annual celebration, deeply rooted in the town’s history and cherished by locals and visitors alike. The festivities, scheduled to take place this coming weekend, start Friday August 4, and conclude on Sunday August 6.
This year’s events include live music from popular bands such as Intercept and MV19, kids’ activities, including a bounce house, and food eating contests such as an ice cream eating contest sponsored by Dari Joy and a pizza eating contest sponsored by Athens Pizza.
“There is so much going on it’s hard to keep it all straight. There is going to be tons of activities for the kids, like touch-a-truck, face painting, your typical carnival games and lots of food! And we can’t forget the fireworks Saturday night at 9pm! Hopefully the rain will hold off but, if not, we’ll still make them happen the next night, Sunday the 6th.” said Deb Collier, Executive Director of the Greater Falls Region Chamber of Commerce.
“This will be the Old Home Days 46th year. More interestingly, it would be the 117th anniversary of the Rockingham Meetinghouse pilgrimage. We’re going to be wrapping this year’s events up with live performances at the Meetinghouse on Sunday,” explained Collier.
She said people traveling to the Village in the morning of the 5th should use caution because of the annual Bring It Home 5K Walk/Run, that starts at the Bellows Falls Central School playground. Registrations will be accepted for individuals and teams that morning from 7-7:45am.
“The event is great for the local economy. It brings in maybe 5,000 to 6,000 people, the majority being on Saturday evening to catch the fireworks,” Collier went on. She stressed that volunteers to help with the event are desperately needed. Anyone interested in helping is asked to contact her directly at 802.463.4280 or find the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/gfrcc.org.
