Three-Alarm Fire at Former Claremont Mill

Emergency responders from around the region responded to a fire Saturday evening at a former mill along the Sugar River in Claremont. The first alarm was raised for the fire at 247 Sullivan Street at 6:16 p.m. and the Claremont Fire Department would raise second and third alarms by 7:19 p.m., drawing fire and rescue units from Croydon, Unity, Lempster, Cornish, Goshen, Acworth, Lebanon, Hanover and North Walpole. Units from Ascutney Volunteer Fire Association, Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department Company 1, Wethersfield Volunteer Fire, Company 3, Cornish, Windsor Volunteer Fire/Rescue Plainfield, Springfield, Vt,. Fire and Ascutney, Vt., fire departments provided further cover assistance. A standby diesel truck was also dispatched to fill trucks on the scene. According to KZM Properties, the 175,000-square-foot former mill is used for storage.Assistance has been requested from the New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office.
