VERMONT — The Vermont Community Foundation has received a $150,000 gift from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, to support flood relief efforts in the wake of the recent torrential rains.
The donation to the Vermont Community Foundation’s VT Flood Response & Recovery Fund 2023 will help bring immediate and longer-term assistance to Vermont communities and businesses that were devastated by flooding that inundated homes, stores, offices, downtowns, and farms.
“TD’s Vermont team knew we had to act as soon as we saw and experienced the destruction of our main streets, commercial corridors, and homes in Vermont,” said Don Baker, commercial market president of Vermont, TD Bank. “Through our contribution to the VT Flood Response & Recovery Fund, we know the Vermont Community Foundation will help our local nonprofits support those with immediate needs.”
TD stepped up to help just days after the Flood Response fund was created, said Dan Smith, president and CEO of the nonprofit Vermont Community Foundation. “They were eager to make a contribution and wanted to quickly jump in to help the many Vermont residents and businesses that were impacted by flooding around the state. We are grateful to TD Bank for answering the call to action and for bringing both hope and resources to create momentum and rebuild Vermont.”
Funds will help provide clean drinking water and food, assist volunteers as they remove debris and help businesses prepare to reopen, support transitional housing and financial counseling, as well as meeting other needs identified by nonprofit organizations working around the state with affected communities.
In addition to front-line relief, the Flood Response fund will support needs as they emerge and are identified by Vermont Community Foundation partners including state and local government, nonprofit organizations, civic groups, farmers, and business leaders.
