Robert T. Jones

Robert T. Jones CLAREMONT, NH -Robert T. Jones, 93, of Claremont, NH passed away peacefully August, 2023, with his wife Eleanor, children, and long-time friend by his side at his green mountain home in Claremont. Robert was born in April of 1930 in Claremont and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of Adrian and Marguerite (Savaria) Jones. He was a graduate of Stevens High School in the class of 1948. During his school years, he worked for his father at the family bakery on Sullivan Street in Claremont Jones’s Food Shoppe. Robert was a veteran in the US Army, having served in Korea, during the Korean War. Following his military service Bob attended the New Hampshire Vocational Technical School Claremont studying Computer Science. He worked for 32 years, starting his career as C.O.E.I., with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. He traveled all over New England, installing equipment in the central offices. He ended his long career with Bell Atlantic in 1989. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post #29, Gold Prospectors of America, Knights of Columbus Council 1820. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Claremont. He also was a member of many fish and game clubs throughout NH and VT. He and his wife, Eleanor were avid ballroom dancers, fox trotting, waltzing, and quick stepping many Saturday nights into the wee hours of the morning with friends at ballrooms and dance halls throughout NH. “Jonesy” as his friends called him was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, always up for a nice long ride on his BMW or Indian motorcycle. He was a scuba diver and enjoyed many summer Sunday afternoons exploring Lake Sunapee at his family’s summer home on Jobs Creek, and also Lakes Willoughby, and Solitude. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor (LeClair) Jones; his brother, John “Jack” Jones and his wife, (Dianna), Houston Texas; children, Eric Jones of Lebanon, NH and Julie (Jones) Roberts of Claremont; grandchildren, Scott T. Roberts and his wife, Christina of South Portland, ME and Kyle Roberts and his significant other, Alexis of Claremont; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, younger brothers Clinton “Skip” Jones and Alan “Tim” Jones, and son, Thomas Jones. A private family service will be held in St Mary Cemetery. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of NH and VT team in White River Junction, VT. The family appreciates all of their kindness and support during Robert’s final days.
