‘So Very Proud of This Girl’
The 2023 Cornish Fair Queen is Mercedes Garrow.
She’s been competing since she was 17 years old. For five years, she competed in hopes of winning (would have been six if COVID hadn’t canceled the fair in 2020).
During those five years competing, I got to see this beautiful, smart and extremely talented woman grow into this confident person. She blossomed out of this shy, young girl’s shell.
She would place one year and come back the next and not place. This pattern happened more than once.
She chose to compete because she enjoyed and valued the experiences she gained as a result and the amazing friends she met along the way.
This year was her last and final year to compete as she aged out of the competition.
She wowed the judges from the beginning in her interview. She won the talent singing beautifully and went onto win this year’s Cornish Fair Queen.
She is one of the reasons I continue to do this — her dedication to the pageant, her drive, her commitment and her will to win.
Mercedes, I am so very proud of you and know you will continue to shine!
