Making the Summer Days Count

High School students usually use the summer months for taking a break from school to have fun in the sun and work summer jobs to earn some money. These are all noble pursuits. However, there are those that go the extra mile and work hard at improving their skills.

Aubree Herzog is one of those that is putting in the extra time to get better at the sport she loves, golf. Aubree is an incoming junior this year and co-captain of the Stevens High School Golf Team. Between work shifts and assigned summer homework, she competed in many of the statewide tournaments to earn enough points to be tied for 2nd place as Juniors Girls Elite Division Player of the Year in the New Hampshire Golf Association. Competitors in the Elite Division participate in 18–36 hole tournaments with yardages from 6,000-plus for boys and 5,400-plus for girls.

“I really enjoy playing golf but more so I like getting to play all these amazing golf courses in New Hampshire and getting to meet a lot of great people who have the same passion for golf that I do.” Aubree shared. “I have to give some credit to my coaches, Ryan Seaver and Brian Stowell for believing in my potential and pushing me to be better.”

“Aubree is the kind of athlete that goes above and beyond to improve her game. She is a strong leader and keeps the team focused on the season’s goals of winning matches!” said Stevens Golf Team Head Coach Ryan Seaver.

Owen Wilkinson is an incoming Freshman on the Stevens High School Golf Team. Although he wasn’t working a job, he was working the golf courses. He played over 40 rounds of 18 holes of golf this summer. Many of those rounds of golf were in the New Hampshire Golf Association Boys Division even in poor weather conditions.

“Owen is an amazing young golfer. He is a confident, strong competitor and will be a great asset to the team this year!” Seaver said.

“My dad is the one who really brings out the passion for golf in me. We try to play together as much as possible. I’ve been watching him play golf since I was young, and I wanted to play just like him,” Owen said. “He’s taught me to be regimented, work hard every day and the results will come.”

The Stevens Golf Team is scheduled to play its first home match on Sept. 8 at Claremont Country Club. See the full schedule at https://shs.sau6.org/athletic.
