Stevens High School girls’ varsity team scored early and often against Berlin High School to help Tim St Pierre earn his career 250th win as a soccer coach.

The Cardinals defeated the Mountaineers 6-0 in their home and season opener at Monadnock Park.

Senior Cardinal striker Kiley Bundy opened the season up with an early goal to put them ahead 1-0. She then netted a second goal in the first half before finishing the game with a hat trick (3 goals scored).

Maddy Minckler, Kaiya Richard and Addison Derosier all added a goal apiece.

Freshman Maddy Chambers, who filled in at center back due to injuries, played her first varsity game as a freshman. “I was a little nervous, but I think everyone was as it was the first game of the season, and we all want to start off well.” Chambers said. “I think as a team, we played amazing tonight, and it was a good win to start the season.”

“With so many different faces and so many young kids I probably should have expected it to be slow and sluggish, but I didn’t so it was a little bit off the pace of where we wanted to be.” Tim St Pierre said. “At the end of the day we have really good players, and we will win a lot of games; we just want to judge it by how we play and not by the final score.”

“Today was not our best effort soccer wise, energy wise the kids worked hard I take nothing away from them, but they just worked hard in the wrong directions sometimes.

Stevens (1-0) will travel to Kearsarge (1-0) today to face the Cougars with a 4:30 p.m. start time.
