Newport Fans Helping to Score Win Over Hunger

Eagle Times Staff
NEWPORT, NH — The Newport School District is combatting local food insecurity by raising donations during some upcoming sporting events as part of the larger statewide campaign, NH Tackles Hunger.

Spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to one of the following sporting events:

• Wednesday, Sept. 13: Hanover at Newport Middle School Football

• Friday, Sept. 15: Fall Mountain at Newport Girls Soccer

• Saturday, Sept. 16: Stevens at Newport Field Hockey

• Saturday, Sept, 16: Winnisquam at Newport Football

“We are hoping that we can make this a district wide event by having Richards and the SAU join us in this endeavor,” said Jeff Miller, who is a member of the Newport Middle High School athletics administration. “Let’s help this fight in our area.”

Needed items include (but are not limited to) canned fruit and vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, beans, tuna, peanut and other nut butters, grains, cereal, pasta, crackers, soup, herbs and spices, sparkling water or seltzer, juice, and similar items.

Other local schools participating with game dates include:

• Saturday, Sept. 16: Stevens at Campbell Varsity Football

• Saturday, Sept. 16: Fall Mountain at Epping-Newmarket Varsity Football

• Friday, Sept. 22: Fall Mountain at ConVal Varsity Football

Over the last 10 years, this project has collected more than 842,000 pounds of food for local food pantries. Visit nhfoodbank.org/nh-tackles-hunger for more information or to make a donation.
