WINDSOR, VT — The Windsor Yellow Jackets varsity field hockey invited Rutland to town for its home opener on Sept. 1 and came away with a 5-2 victory.

Piper Vivian found the back of the net twice for Windsor, while Mackenzie Kleefisch, Gwen Ambrose and Hannah Tenney also scored goals for the Yellow Jackets.

Windsor also received key contributions from Gianna Felice (3 assists), Emma Sauer (1 assist), Kleefisch (1 assist) and Sydney Perry (11 saves).

Arikka Patorti scored both goals for Rutland. Emma Ward added an assist.

“We played really well today,” said Windsor Coach Blake Wardwell. “Everybody came out aggressive and we maintained that momentum throughout the entire game.”

For Windsor, it’s the third season in a row they have defeated Rutland in their opening game of the season.

The Yellow Jackets were scheduled to open the season with a three-game homestand, but the weather forced their games against Bellows Falls and Burr & Burton to be postponed. Windsor is now scheduled to host Burr & Burton on Oct. 2 and Bellows Falls on Oct. 19.

Ten days after their first game, Windsor traveled to perennial Division 1 powerhouse Bellows Falls for their second match of the season.

After losing their first game of the season against fellow Division 1 powerhouse, South Burlington, the Bellows Falls Terriers were eager to get in the win column. The Terriers did exactly that as they came away with a 5-0 win over Windsor on a rainy Monday afternoon.

Bellows Falls got the scoring started with 12:39 remaining in the first quarter when Hannah Terry put the ball in the back of the net following assists from Ava LaRoss and Veronica Moore. Just over four minutes later, Emma Bazin scored for the Terriers and LaRoss extended the lead to 3-0 at the start of the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Bazin scored her second goal of the afternoon and Moore scored the final goal of the day for Bellows Falls.

Livie Clough had four saves for the Terriers and Sydney Perry recorded 16 saves for Windsor.

Windsor and Bellows Falls are now both 1-1 on the season. Windsor has games scheduled this week against Springfield (Sept. 13) and Otter Valley (Sept. 16) and Bellows Falls will travel to Brattleboro Sept. 14.
