CHESTER, VT — The Green Mountain boys cross country team has a veteran squad with four returning runners competing this season. Junior Joa Gibson leads the way after placing 12th at last year’s Southern Vermont League (SVL) B Division Championships. Gibson is joined by juniors Haydon Alon and Colin Santiago, and sophomore Kord Hinkley. On the girls side, senior Riley Medina is the lone runner for Green Mountain. Four middle school runners will also be training with the team.

“Our goals are to improve our times, stay healthy, have a good time and compete for an SVL title,” said Head Coach Scott Renfro, who’s in his 12th year of coaching the team.

The Green Mountain boys finished 5th at last season’s SVL Championships, trailing only Hartford, Springfield, Long Trail and Mill River. This season’s championships will be held at the North Springfield Dam on Friday, Oct. 20.

“We have great kids who are dependable, mature and who look after and mentor our younger kids,” Renfro said.

Green Mountain opened its season at Thetford Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
