Stevens Golf Wins Home Opener

CLAREMONT, NH — The Stevens Cardinals hosted their first home match of the season on Friday, Sept. 15, at Claremont Country Club, scoring 69 points to hold off Lebanon (65), John Stark (52) and ConVal (38).

Owen Wilkinson won the individual competition by scoring 23 points. Ian Gersberg finished 3rd overall with 18 points, Aubree Herzog was next with 15 and Lydia Redman followed with 13. Justin Demars (9), Josh Petrin (8) and Oliver Beeman (7) also competed for the Cardinals.

“This was a pivotal early season match for us with Lebanon sitting ahead of us in the standings,” said Stevens Head Coach Ryan Seaver. “Ian Gersberg and Lydia Redman played their best rounds of the year.”

Prior to Stevens’ home victory, they traveled to Lake Sunapee Country Club on Monday, Sept. 11, for a three team match against Coe-Brown and Kearsarge in wet and humid conditions. Coe-Brown led the way with 82 points as a result of several strong individual performances.

Stevens and Kearsarge were neck-and-neck for 2nd place, but it was Stevens who would prevail by a score of 66-64.

Owen Wilkinson led the way for the Cardinals by tying Jack Smith from Coe-Brown for 1st place overall. Wilkinson and Smith both shot 38 for 9 holes and led their teams with 24 points each.

Aubree Herzog was next for Stevens with 16 points, and Ian Gersberg and Josh Petrin rounded out the scoring for Stevens with 13 points each. Also competing for Stevens were Justin Demars (12 points), Oliver Beeman (9 points) and Eli Williams (6 points).

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, Stevens traveled to Eastman Golf Links in Grantham. Souhegan moved to 11-0 on the season by leading the way with 91 points. Coe-Brown was next with 76, Lebanon followed with 75, and Stevens finished with 67.

Wilkinson tied for 3rd place overall and led the Cardinals with 23 points. Gersberg was next for Stevens with 18, Herzog added 15, and Beeman had 11 to round out the scoring. Petrin (6) and Demars (5) also competed for the Cardinals.

Stevens is now 8-7 on the season and they are in 6th place in the Division 3 standings. The Cardinals’ next match is on Monday, Sept. 25. against Plymouth and John Stark at Claremont Country Club.
